Efficiently edit and view LaTeX on a smaller screen

My 13 inch MacBook screen does not provide enough space to comfortably edit the source and view the PDF of a typical LaTeX document at the same time. Because sometimes I really value seeing both at once, my solution is to reduce the page margins using the geometry package. The following snippet placed in the LaTeX preamble should result in the same double column width (each column 21 picas wide with 1 pica separation) and height as the standard IEEEtran document class with minimal margins.
